about
Quote from Will Gardner (Lead Vox, Saxophone) for ‘Freaking Out’ Single Release
I began writing Freaking Out in the middle of the bleak Winter lockdown of 2020. I’d initially written the skeleton of it, along with the hooks and chorus melodies. I met with other musicians to try these ideas out, and the first jam that started this band was actually originally with Jamie Lenman.
It wasn’t until Andrew, Evelyn and Mark joined the band that it all came together though, and Freaking Out really came to life. It was after changing from a different key into Evelyn’s low tuning, evolving the song completely as a band, and adding her crushing riff at the end that the song really felt complete.
We really enjoyed making our music video for Freaking Out as well. We had the dream team of Dave Neale (Wild Stag Studio) and Oliver Kane (Summon Studios) on board, and their vision completely captured the energy of our tune in a visually exciting way.
We worked so hard on making Freaking Out what it is today, and it’s going to be both a relief and joy to finally get this one out into the world and share with the world.
Freaking out is about the struggle of initially dealing with parenthood and trying to find spaces of peace and solace in between the sleepless nights and chaos.
lyrics
I was a player
Life was an easy game
Till I saw your face
Things will never be the same
Because you can’t, won’t, don’t stop freaking out
Because you can’t, won’t, don’t stop freaking out
I know the way to the reaches
I’m out of the game in a hole
Follow me south till you reach it
Out of my head back home
I was a preacher
On my soapbox stall
Now I see your face
Take me back to school
Because you can’t, won’t, don’t stop freaking out
Because you can’t, won’t, don’t stop freaking out
I know the way to the reaches
Out of my head in a hole
Follow me south till you reach it
Out of my game in a hole
I know the way to the reaches
Out of the way to the hole
Follow me south till you reach it
Out of my way back
What the hell was I expecting
Still I tried but my head’s in a hole
